PROJECT HAPPINESS

Project Happiness follows a senior high school class from the Mount Madonna School near Watsonville, California on a journey to discover the true basis of human happiness. Joining them on this quest are the Tibetan and Indian students from the Tibetan Children’s Village in Dharamsala, India and the Dominion Heritage Academy in Jos, Nigeria.

Using the internet, video cameras, and other new communications technologies, the students will explore and create a new curriculum for His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s book Ethics for the New Millennium. Together the students will build bridges of understanding to learn about each other and themselves.

In Spring 2007, the California students will travel by plane, train and jeep to Dharamsala, India. There, they will meet the students from the other countries face-to-face for the first time. They’ll also take in the environment and culture that is India.

Together, all the students will have the rare privilege of a private audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. With the benefit of having pondered the issues for many months, they can test their theories, ask hard questions and immerse themselves in the world, wisdom and humor of the Fourteenth Dalai Lama.

It is an experience they will never forget. The documentary and multi-media internet presentation that will result from this project will allow people – especially young people – around the world to share in this remarkable journey of self-discovery.

We believe the project will make a unique and lasting contribution to the public understanding of the Dalai Lama’s wisdom regarding happiness and ethical living.
